Power connections for grid and energy storage projects
Review connector options for defined equipment interfaces, temporary feeders, testing and auxiliary supplies. Specify the exact AC or DC circuit before selecting a connection for an energy storage project.
A storage site contains several different circuits
A battery energy storage system can include battery-side DC circuits, power conversion equipment, AC distribution and auxiliary supplies. A connector suitable for one interface is not automatically suitable for the others.
Start with the equipment manufacturer’s connection specification. Identify whether the circuit is AC or DC, its operating voltage and current, its conductor arrangement and the required disconnection method. A three-phase AC connector set is not a generic specification for a battery-side DC connection.
Connector ranges to review for the specified interface
PowerFit
Single-pole line source, line drain, panel source and panel drain connectors. Browse all four current ranges.
For equipment that specifies a PowerFit single-pole connection. Compare 400A, 500A, 750A and 800A ranges against the exact circuit and cable assembly.
400A · 500A · 750A · 800A
K-LOK
Single-pole cam-type connectors in 150A and 400A ranges, with line and panel formats.
For temporary power or test equipment specifying a K-LOK cam-type interface. Confirm the rating and mating parts for the particular connection.
150A · 400A
CEE Form
Multi-pole industrial plugs, connectors, receptacles and inlets. Select current, pole arrangement, voltage and protection grade together.
For AC auxiliary equipment or distribution specifying a matching CEE Form connection. Do not infer battery-side DC suitability from a CEE Form current rating.
16A · 32A · 63A · 125A
All CEE Form
A connector’s maximum rating is a component limit. Select the complete connection, including both mating parts, cable, termination, enclosure and operating conditions. A larger connector rating alone does not establish the allowable current of the assembled circuit.
Keep AC and DC ratings model-specific
The referenced PowerFit 500A and 800A models specify 1000V AC/DC Maximum. Confirm the current datasheet for both sides of the connection.
For battery-side DC use, obtain explicit confirmation of suitability for the intended equipment and operating conditions. A voltage rating alone does not establish a complete battery-system interface, switching capability or system approval.
Specify the assembly, environment and fault duty
-
Cable and termination: define conductor size and construction, cable outside diameter, gland and bushing, strain relief and installation space. A crimp version and a set-screw version require different assembly arrangements.
-
Outdoor interfaces: the PowerFit 500A and 800A datasheets specify IP67 while mated. Review panel sealing, cable entry and protection during disconnection as separate parts of the installation.
-
Fault duty: compare the exact connector’s documented withstand values and conditions with the circuit and protection design. Component withstand data does not provide the interrupting function of a switch or protective device.
-
Isolation: the system design must control the relevant sources of energy before connector handling. Follow the equipment manufacturer’s instructions and the site’s approved procedure.
Separate connector evidence from system approval
Connector datasheets, declarations and model-specific certificates are supporting documents for component selection. They do not establish certification of a complete battery energy storage system, a grid connection or a switchgear assembly.
Use the published PowerFit temperature-rise reports as evidence for their documented test configurations. They are not a blanket approval for continuous operation at the same current in a different enclosure, cable arrangement or ambient condition.
Send an interface specification with the inquiry
Include the circuit diagram, AC or DC designation, operating voltage and current, fault-duty requirements, equipment interface, cable details, environment and applicable project requirements. State whether the connector is for an equipment connection, temporary test feeder or auxiliary supply.
